Somogyi MD Fanfret
Somogyi is a name synonymous with the birth of the modern steel-string acoustic guitar. He has taught many world-renowned builders such as Michi Matsuda, Ray Kraut, Leo Buendia and Mario Beauregard (just to name a few) and his trademark tone and responsiveness can be echoed in each apprentice’s builds. This guitar has a fanfret which permits even more responsiveness and balance when tuning down to DADGAD (or in this video, CGCFGC). The combination of bearclaw European spruce and highly-figured Brazilian rosewood make this guitar redefine the term “cannon”, as we actually had to turn the microphone levels down when we initially recorded this guitar, it is extremely powerful. On top of the sheer projection, this guitar will sing with fullness and beauty when played delicately. There is nothing this guitar can’t do. Ervin’s reputation as a master luthier is fully realized when playing this guitar.
